I've gotten REALLY bad about updating both on here and on myspace.
I know that some of you only have this as a way to really keep up with me since FB doesn't allow journal entries.
I'm going to try and update more often.

Xross-Posted to What a Crock [Apr. 16th, 2009|02:23 pm]
[Current Mood | curious]

Does anyone have a good red beans and rice recipe that they'd recommend or should I just switch the beans out in the Creole Black Beans and Rice Recipe that Octavialuna posted back in 2006?
And what about Dirty Rice?
Tara, I know that you have an AWESOME recipe for it...you turned me into an addict!
I'm planning to make red beans and rice and in the crock and do a shrimp boil with corn and potatoes this weekend and wanted suggestions.
Any other sides/main dishes are welcome too!
Any and all help is appreciated!

Racism is alive and well [Apr. 13th, 2009|11:39 am]
[Current Mood | frustrated]

I am getting repeatedly annoyed as well as pissed off about Republicans being called racist for not liking Obama or his policies.
Could that dislike stem from the fact that we don't like his POLICIES and maybe it has NOTHING to do with the man making them?
Of course not!
I was raised Democrat, my parents are still registered Democrats themselves.
I was taught to do my research and vote for the politician that would best serve the country as a whole, not any one group...and that should be REGARDLESS of political party.
Does thinking Rosie O'Donnell is a wacko make me homophobic? No!
But how is it that having a problem with some of the policies that Obama wants to pass make me racist?
Oh yeah, I'm a white female...funny I forgot about that.
Sorry, I don't blindly choke down what John Stewart and the Daily Show, CNN, CBS, or even Fox News tries to sell me.
I do my research before I believe anything.
I'm not a cross-burning, sheet wearing racist...anyone who has known me or talked to me for more than ten minutes should know that.
I feel sorry for the assumptions and assumed racism as well as reverse-racism being perceived right now.
This has nothing to do with Republican/Democrat anymore, merely sheer stupidity.
When are we going to stop voting AGAINST politicians and FOR who is best for our country?

Thank you to whomever posted a link to Trashy Diva!
I treated myself to a red version as well as a kelly green version of the Trixie II dress and LOVE them!
While the store's prices are generally jaw-dropping, these were on clearance.
They fit beautifully and are pretty supportive.
The best part though? I can still wear a strapless bra (with a clear halter strap) beneath them! :)
Thank you!

And, on that note, would it be inappropriate to wear the green version to a wedding next month?
I'm 5'5" so the dress is below the knee on me, and finally back to a 34DD post childbirth. I'm short and fairly curvy and don't want to be too 'flashy' since it's a halter.

Got to love this... [Aug. 26th, 2008|02:09 pm]
[Current Mood |snarky]

A lot of people on my friend's list are outraged by the thwarted alleged attempt on Obama...
And yet, noted on the same page as a much SMALLER footnote was this...

http://cbs4denver.com/slideshows/White.Powder.scare.20.800716.html?rid=0

And here are a few more:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1047937/McCain-HQ-anthrax-scare-mystery-white-powder-arrives-threatening-letter.html

No, it was NOT anthrax...but where is the equal outrage?
It happened in Denver as well.
And, I'm sorry, but that's equally scary to me.

Could it be because McCain is....dare I say it... a REPUBLICAN!?!?!?!

Warning, Cheese ahead!

I know that this is a day early and that some of you are halfway or all of the way across the country and won't be reading this until AFTER Christmas, but I wanted to post this anyway.
All of you know what Christmas means to me as a Christian (and yes, I am WELL aware that Christ was in all likelihood born during the summer months and that his birth is celebrated in December because Christians could celebrate it then without persecution.)
That aside, I wanted to say thank you to one of the best Christmas presents that I get every year...
All of you.
Yeah, corny I know. But having all of you in my life is the greatest gift that I could ever ask for.
After nearly losing my cousin I'm finding myself, yet again re-examining what's important to me.
It isn't the shows or the accolades or the crazy costumes we get to wear or the characters we get to play.
It's getting to see all of you.
I don't want that to be the only time of year that it happens.
I think about all of you a lot more than you think and I wouldn't trade a single one of you for anything.
And yes, all of this includes people who no longer speak to me or have removed me from their myspace page.
I know how word travels in this group and I know you'll end up reading this too, somehow.
Merry Christmas and God bless you. May God grant you the peace and joy throughout the year that we all hope for.
I love you because of and in spite of who you are and who I am.
Thank you for reminding me exactly what makes life so special.

Pirate Fair [Nov. 19th, 2007|09:49 am]
Contrary to certain rumors going around the show actually did do pretty well this weekend.
Friday was a bust, not a lot of folks...but it was FREEZING out...Frankly, I didn't want to be outside on Friday night either with as cold as it was.
Saturday and Sunday saw our bleachers filled with people for all of the fight shows as well as the fire show.
The Demezarah (hope I'm spelling it correctly) Gypsies always had a crowd. Then again, when you've got four beautiful women on one stage, what do you expect?
The fight show was absolutely mind-blowing...we got a comment on how the fights were "much more complex" this year.
And the fire show...wow. I really can't even come up with words for it. I think all of the cheering that the crowd was doing pretty much said it all.
And the girls that were at the "Foil and Feather" this year made it look absolutely amazing. It's hard to believe that the set piece use was the same one that Grodon and Racheal named and started up by themselves 3 years ago and the hussies made theirs in the following year.
That being said, what made things not the same was not having ALL of my family out there (And I don't just mean the Jennies.)
I missed being able to blow kisses to Dawn, Lizzie and the rest of the Hussies and I missed having Chris and Sarah out there.
But, we made do with what we had. "The show must go on" proved pretty true this weekend.
This family will ALWAYS persevere. But, we are stronger as a whole and we all know that. You can't scare or intimidate or threaten us into doing otherwise.
I would follow these people anywhere, and I hope all of them know that.

Prayer Request-Updated Again [Sep. 4th, 2007|08:56 pm]
[Current Mood | grateful]

I don't typically make one of these unless something is really wrong.
This time, something is.
I got a phone call Sunday night from my mother letting me know that my cousin Brian was injured in an accident.
He is a bicyclist and participates in triathlons every year (including the Iron Man, which includes an 112-mile bike ride.)
Brian was on a family vacation (not only with his wife and kids, but my Aunt, uncle and other cousins) and was hit by a car.
He currently has broken ribs, broken vertebrae and internal bleeding, possibly due to his broken leg, as well as facial lacerations.
He is currently in a medically induced coma and is (Thank God) stable.
They have to go back in later for more surgery and he will eventually have to have plastic surgery on his face.
PLEASE, whatever you believe in, PLEASE keep my cousin in your prayers. And even if you don't believe pray for him anyway.
He's 39-years old and has a wife and two children.

http://www.newsherald.com/headlines/article.display.php?a=3189
The article is WRONG on part of the accident details...my cousin hit the hood of the vehicle and the windshield
The man who hit him has prior charges for driving on a suspended license, letting someone ride on the OUTSIDE of his vehicle and operating a motorcycle without a license.
He wasn't even injured and my cousin is still listed in critical condition.
I am absolutely livid right now...I keep alternating between wanting to cry or else hit something.
I just want my cousin to be okay. Brian is more like a brother to me than a cousin and he's such an amazing man.

*Good news-They performed surgery on his leg and have been able to stop the internal bleeding.

*Brian went in for a Cat-scan this morning to see the extent of the damage to his spine.

*REALLY good news- His fever is down and he's showing movement in his feet!!!! They've done reflex tests (tickled his feet, etc) and he's kicked or shown response even though he's still in the induced coma!!!!
Still don't know the results of the CT-Scan

* Brian is coming around on his own! The CT scan revealed that he had a bruise on his heart from the accident, but no damage to the nerves in his spine!
They should be removing the respirator soon!

Lucky [Aug. 21st, 2007|02:32 pm]
[Current Mood | contemplative]

Got to have one of my friends over for dinner last night.
Spending time with her as well as my husband made me take a step back from things and take a good look at my life.
I'm really lucky, honestly BLESSED to have the people in my life that I do.
Even though I still feel that I'm on the fringe of every group that I'm a part of, I'm happy to be here.
My husband's always telling me how 'everybody loves (me)' but some days I really wonder.
I've got friends that I do shows with, but very rarely see them away from those shows.
I've also got ones that I talk to every day. Or even if I don't and it's only a once a month thing, I still feel really close to them *waves at Carmel, Minion and Aimee*
I love everyone that I know and even care about the people that I don't like all that much, or that can't stand me. It's just in my nature.
Sometimes it can get lonely though...but I don't regret a second.

Anniversaries You'd Rather Forget [Jul. 11th, 2007|04:41 pm]
It's amazing how quickly time can pass us by. I can't believe my grandfather has been gone for two years now. (My mom's father passed on while I was in high school.)
Even now I still find myself thinking of so many things that I needed to tell him and never got a chance to or I just forgot and thought I'd have more time to tell him.
I can only hope that, somehow, these words reach him.
How do you ever truly say goodbye to a man who meant so much to you? Granddaddy Bill and my Grandmother helped raise me. I was over at their house while my parents worked during the summer and a lot during my school years as well.
If not for him, I wouldn't be the woman I am today.
I still remember dancing with him as a child, when we watched Hee-Haw on television. No matter how tired he got, he'd keep on dancing until *I* was tired. He always used to sing to me too, until emphysema robbed him of the ability to breathe comfortably, much less sing.
He was always there for his family. Even though his job had him traveling a lot, I always remember him being home on the weekends and have more memories of him being home than away.
I still can't believe that he's gone, much less has been for two years.
Tonight I'm going to be at a concert, hopefully having a good time...I know that's what he'd want.
But I'm still going to be thinking about the man who read "One Fish, Two Fish" and "A Fly Went By" to me, the man who always had Andes mints in his shirt pocket for me and would let my clumsy little girl hands comb his hair.
I got my smile and my loud laugh from you along with my oddly colored brown eyes that really DO change color.
You gave me my father and my wonderful family and my love for the world around me. I get my strength from you, Sissy and my parents. My brother and I have your wit.
You left behind a legacy of love, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and hopefully great-great grandchildren, the latter of which you will never get to see.
To my favorite Marine, I love you, I miss you and I hope you're looking down on me proudly right now. You're still my hero and always will be.

Curious [May. 11th, 2007|09:02 am]
[Current Mood | thoughtful]

I've noticed since I've been feeling rather homesick (for my family and hometown, where I live is "home" now) that I've been craving "Comfort Food"
(i.e.- Butter/lima beans, my grandmother's beef tips, cornbread, etc.)
I actually made myself a grilled cheese/tuna sandwich yesterday and I rarely want those anymore.
This made me want to pose the following question...what is "Comfort food" for you?

My Wish-Rascal Flatts
~~~~
I hope that the days come easy and the moments pass slow,
And each road leads you where you want to go,
And if you're faced with a choice, and you have to choose,
I hope you choose the one that means the most to you.
And if one door opens to another door closed,
I hope you keep on walkin' till you find the window,
If it's cold outside, show the world the warmth of your smile,
But more than anything, more than anything,
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to,
Your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more than you can hold,
And while you're out there getting where you're getting to,
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,
Yeah, this is my wish.
I hope you never look back, but ya never forget,
All the ones who love you, in the place you left,
I hope you always forgive, and you never regret,
And you help somebody every chance you get,
Oh, you find God's grace, in every mistake,
And you always give more than you take.
But more than anything, yeah, and more than anything,
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to,
Your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more than you can hold,
And while you're out there getting where you're getting to,
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,
Yeah, this, is my wish.
Letters Entertain You [Mar. 1st, 2007|12:49 pm]
[Current Mood | busy]
Comment and I'll give you a letter. In your journal, list your ten favourite songs that begin with that letter.
Shannon awarded me with the letter "N"
1.) Nickajack Cave- Gary Allan
2.)"No One Mourns the Wicked"- Wicked
3."Nothin' 'Bout Me'" Sting
4. "Nothin' on But the Radio"- Gary Allan
5. "No Man in his Wrong Heart"- Gary Allan
6. "No Good Deed"- Wicked
7. "No One Knows Who I Am"- Jekyll & Hyde
8. "Not a Day Goes By"- Lonestar
9."The Night I Called the Old Man Out"- Garth Brooks
10. "Not That Different"- Collin Raye
Two extras- "Nothing Like the Sun" and Never Coming Home" both by Sting
Yes, I know there are THREE Gary Allan songs. He happens to be one of my favorite singers. ;-)
As for the Garth one, if you catalogued it, it would be under "N" (yes, I used to work in a library.)
And I also know most of these are country...that's what I listen to these days
Dedication- Thank you Aimee [Feb. 19th, 2007|03:03 pm]
[Current Mood | loved]
Heard this on the radio yesterday as I was on my way to show and couldn't help but think of how many friends that I have who are like this.
Find Out Who Your Friends Are- Tracy Lawrence
Run your car off the side of the road
Get stuck in a ditch way out in the middle of nowhere
Or get yourself in a bind,
Lose the shirt off your back,
Need a floor, need a couch, need a bus fare…
This is where the rubber meets the road
This is where the cream is gonna rise
This is where this is what you really didn’t know
This is where the truth don’t lie
Find out who your friends are
Somebody’s gonna drop everything
Run out and crank up their car
Hit the gas, get there fast
Never stop to think “what’s in it for me?”
Or “it’s way too far”
They just show on up
With their big ol’ heart
Yeah find out who your friends are.
Everybody wants to slap your back
Wants to shake your hand
When you’re up on top of that mountain
Then one of those rocks will give way
And you slide back down
Look up and see who’s around then
This aint where the road comes to an end
This aint where the band wagon stops
This is just one of those times when
A lotta folks jump off.
Yeah find out who your friends are
Somebody’s gonna drop everything
Run out and crank up their car
Hit the gas, get there fast
Never stop to think “what’s in it for me?”
Or “it’s way too far”
They just show on up
With their big ol’ heart
Yeah find out who your friends are.
When the water’s high
When the weather’s not so fair
When the well runs dry
Who’s gonna be there?
Yeah find out who your friends are
Somebody’s gonna drop everything
Run out and crank up their car
Hit the gas, get there fast
Never stop to think “what’s in it for me?”
Or “it’s way too far”
They just show on up
With their big ol’ heart
Yeah find out who your friends are.
Yeah find out who your friends are.
Run your car off the side of the road
Get stuck in a ditch way out in the middle of nowhere
Man I been there
Or get yourself in a bind
Lose the shirt off your back
Need a floor, need a couch
Need a bus fare…
Man I been there
Man I been there…
{Chorus}
